Update (May 21, 2014): we’ve created a link for you to send a letter directly to the Supervisors.

Alameda County has taken a big step toward developing a Community Choice energy program for the county’s 1.5 million residents.

On May 5 the Board of Supervisors’ Transportation and Planning Committee (Supervisors Haggerty and Miley) reviewed a staff report and expressed enthusiastic support for exploring Community Choice. The committee has instructed staff to bring an amended report to the full Board and to request funds to begin program development. The full Board will consider moving forward on May 27 or June 3.

The impetus for this effort came from the Berkeley Climate Action Coalition, which includes members of the Sierra Club, Local Clean Energy Alliance, Ecology Center, League of Women Voters, Leadership East Bay, and KyotoUSA. Shawn Marshall of LEAN Energy and Seth Baruch of Carbonomics have also been advising county staff.
