The David Brower Celebration on March 9 was a great success that brought together leaders from green business and progressive politics, along with loyal Sierra Club supporters, to raise funds to support the conservation work of the San Francisco Bay Chapter.
Our MC, Rose Aguilar, host of KALW’s “Your Call”, reminded us of the critical environmental issues that we face here in the Bay Area and how they’re connected to the global movement to prevent climate change.
Trip Van Noppen and the team from Earthjustice accepted the Trailblazer award for their tireless legal work to protect the planet. California state Sen. Edwin Yee and U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee accepted the Phil Burton Badge of Courage Award. Their work in their respective legislative bodies has helped make a cleaner and safer environment in the Bay Area, the state, the nation and the planet and their efforts are greatly appreciated.
The event was held in the LEED-certified Intercontinental Hotel, where the Walter Pope Trio, with special guest Carla Kaufman, livened up the party with their renditions of jazz standards. When Walter isn’t playing piano, he’s working as an outreach representative for the Bay Chapter.
Event sponsors were:
